On August 28th & 29th, the Manawatu Classic Club run their Bi-annual Motorcycle Show in the Barber Hall in Palmerston North with bikes on display including a 1914, 500cc Humber single, an air cooled Norton Rotary, a 600cc BWM Trail twin, a 500cc 1936 Ivory Calthorpe, a 500cc Model 21 Norton flat tanker, a 1926 Indian Scout, an XR750 Harley flat tracker, a 600cc Panther Sloper, a Speedway TQ Midget powered by a 500cc Norton twin and a 500cc, Jawa ice racing bike complete with two inch steel spikes on the tyres.
There were plenty of classic and vintage street bikes as well as classic racers, modern racers, radical choppers, dirt bikes, beach racers, vintage grass tracker, sidecars and even a couple of Supercharged Drag Bikes.

On Sunday, August 15th, 2010, a small group of Horowhenua car enthusiasts took part in the Horowhenua Vintage Car Club’s, monthly Sunday Run which involved following written directions to visit places of interest around the local area. The days visits started with a look at a local tractor enthusiasts collection, and his selection of Fordson Tractors including a 1950 Fordson Major powered by a 4700cc diesel engine. From there it was out into the country to see a collection of cars and bikes including a 1966 Mercedes Benz 220SE and a 1953, Norton ES2 motorcycle. Later on the run there was a 1919, Ford TT one ton Truck and a selection of Classic Cars.

After lunch the car enthusiasts had a look at an indoor model railway in action and some classic British Jaguars.

The Run itself was like a mobile car show with a number of interesting cars taking part including the 1929, DeSoto Sports Roadster of Levin’s Derek and Margaret Ransom and the 1954, Sunbeam Talbot 90 of Keith and Jo Murrell of Foxton. Mike Khull from Foxton Beach drove over in the 1947, Ford Super Deluxe he bought in 1989, and added a few more miles to the roughly 60,000 miles he has done in the car since then.

Many of these cars will be on display at the upcoming Pride and the Passion Motor Show, hosted by the Horowhenua Vintage Car Club on the 25th and 26th of September, 2010 at the Horowhenua Events Centre, Victoria Street, Levin. The theme of the show reflects the club’s pride and passion for their vintage machines however it will also include classic, custom, competition, hotrods and motorcycles as well as food stalls and trade displays.

Proceeds from the show will go to the local Arohanui Hospice and the Horowhenua Health Shuttle. The show will be open from 10am to 10pm on Saturday 25th, September and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 26th, September. Entry is Adults $5, Children 5-11 years $3, Family $12, children under five free.

On Sunday July 25th the Palmerston North Off Roaders Club held a Club day at Wall Road, North of Foxton. The venue was basically a fairly flat paddock with a muddy track that wound it’s way in and out of a grove of Macrocarpa and other trees. The six lap races kept the small crowd of spectators entertained with some interesting cornering in the muddy conditions and a couple of bumps on the main straight which had cars airborne. Drivers included Richie Ryder and Renee Veenendaal of Otaki in their 1600cc VW powered Off Roader, Peter Hogg of Levin in a Toyota powered Off Roader and Daniel Knight of Levin in his 1600cc VW powered Off Roader.
The most potent racer vehicle on the day, although not always the fastest, was the class 8 Thundertruck of Martin Van Der Wal from Otaki which is a purpose built, Off Road race truck powered by a 4000cc, mid mounted, Toyota Lexus V8 engine.
